We Would Like To Introduce You To The Entire Staff Here At

Juergen's Gymnastics Academy

Juergen Achtermann - Owner, Founder and President of Achtermann Enterprises, Inc.  DBA  Juergen's Gymnastics Academy

Juergen was introduced to Gymnastics in 1977 by his Humble High School PE teacher, Ian Adler during his sophomore year. With a background in Wrestling, Juergen seemed to pick up the sport of Gymnastics quite quickly. Making the Varsity Team at Humble High School and competing for the first time in his junior year, little did he know that this "hobby" would become his career and ironically enough, Juergen would spend over 20 years of life as the Varsity Gymnastics Coach at the same school where he was introduced to the sport years before. Although Wrestling (a sport in which Juergen placed 5th in the 1980 Olympic Trials) and Baseball were Juergen's two main passions, he caught the "Gymnastics Bug"...big time. In addition to his High School practices, he found himself working out after school at a local club and coaching there part time to help pay for his classes. In only his 2nd year of Gymnastics training, Juergen became the Texas State Champion on Pommels, Rings, P-Bars, High Bar, and All-Around. After high school, Juergen attended Texas A&M where he was a member of the Aggies Gymnastics and Wrestling Teams. At the end of a short lived competitive career, Juergen became the Varsity Gymnastics Coach at Kingwood High School guiding the Girls Team to the 1983 Texas State Title (which just so happens to be the first State Champion Team in the history of Kingwood High). After 2 years at Kingwood, Juergen transferred to Humble High School and created a longtime dynasty in both Men's and Women's Gymnastics. For over 2 decades, Humble was "The Team to Beat" when it came to Varsity Gymnastics. He recently retired from coaching High School Gymnastics after his 30th year as an employee for Humble ISD. In the early and mid '80's, Juergen was a member of Karolyi's Master Camp Staff working Gymnastics Camps across the country with his longtime friend, Bela Karolyi. In 1986, Juergen opened Juergen's Gymnastics Academy. Over 25 years later, the gym, the business, and the customer base (past and present) have helped in the creating of a somewhat Gymnastics culture with the emphasis on healthy living through the art of Gymnastics. Throughout his coaching career, Juergen has coached literally countless High School and Club District, State, Regional, and National Champions and High School All-Americans. He has the distinction of being the only coach in Texas to win a High School State Championship in both Men's and Women's Gymnastics as well as being the only coach in the Nation to have both a High School Men's and Women's Team to be ranked #1 Nationally. Juergen has coached athletes who have continued their Gymnastics careers at the following Colleges and Universities: Oklahoma, LSU, Nebraska, West Point, United States Air Force Academy, United States Naval Academy, William & Mary, Penn State, Arkansas, NC State, San Jose State, Texas Women's University, Centenary, Texas A&M, UT, Texas Tech, Texas State, University of Houston, Southern Illinois, and UT Arlington (to name a few). And with some of the talented young athletes coming up through his program, it appears the list won't stop there. He has been named "Coach of the Year" more times than he can remember. Other than coaching, Juergen has also served in the capacities of Texas USA Gymnastics District Rep, Texas USA Gymnastics Coaches Education Chairman, USA Gymnastics Women's Texas State Chairman, High School Regional Technical Chairman (for both Men and Women), Texas High School Gymnastics Coaches Association President, and has been a Certified Gymnastics Judge for both Men and Women. Juergen is CPR Certified, Blood Borne Pathogen Certified, First Aide & Safety Certified, and USA Gymnastics Safety Certified. It's plain to see, Juergen knows Gymnastics. Outside of the gym, Juergen spends as much time as he can with his son Jace and the family dog named Barani. His hobbies include almost anything sports related (from participating, to spectating, to memorabilia collecting), home improvement, coin collecting, magic, and is a bit of an adrenaline junkie (which is Juergen's excuse for his fascination with roller coasters, fast cars, and sky diving).

Tricia Lawhon - Director, Girls Rec Program Manager, Girls Team Coach

Gymnastics has been a part of Tricia's life ever since pre-school in Vail, Colorado. At age 7, she moved to Lufkin, TX where her true love of gymnastics would begin. While competing in both USAG and AGA organizations, Tricia went on to win many titles including AGA State Champion for multiple years. Her first coaching experience came while she was in high school, coaching Pre-School and Girls Rec classes at Gymagination Gymnastics. Tricia's history with Juergen's started in 2001 when she lived in Lufkin, TX and would drive 3 days a week to Humble to train with Juergen. The following year, she made the move with her family and became a full time gymnast at Juergen's and also competed for him on the Humble High School gymnastics team. She was a 5 time USAG regional qualifier and qualified for USAG Level 10 Nationals in 2003. She competed at the 2004 High School Nationals and became the National Balance Beam Champion. Before working out each night, Tricia would also coach Girls Rec classes at Juergen's. She was eager to pass her love for gymnastics down to each and every child she could. After graduating from Humble High School in 2004, Tricia continued her gymnastics career in college. She received a Full-Ride Gymnastics Scholarship to the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her success didn't stop there. In 2005, as a freshman, she was selected as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) “Rookie of the year”. Her accolades include earning many ECAC Coaches Choice Awards and becoming an All-American in USAG throughout her college career. She qualified to the NCAA Southeast Regional Competition in the All- Around in both 2005 and 2007. Tricia was the Team Captain her senior year, and received "The Rock" award for her consistent performances at every competition. She also assisted in coaching gymnastics classes held at the college in her free time. Tricia graduated with a Business Administration degree in Finance and a minor in Psychology. Upon graduation she was presented with the President’s award in recognition of Sportsmanship, Citizenship and Leadership. After graduating, she worked 4 years at Aaron's Sales and Lease, where she was the General Manager and operated her own store for two years. Tricia was very excited to return in 2012 to join the Juergen's Gymnastics Family and continue working with her true love of gymnastics. She is the Girls Program Manager and Team Coach for Levels 2-10. She recently just got married to Brody Lawhon on July, 16th, 2016. Tricia is CPR Certified, Blood Borne Pathogen Certified, and First Aide & Safety Certified.

Phong Le - Girls Team Coach and Billing Manager

After several years of being away from the sport of gymnastics, Phong renewed his passion for working with kids when he returned to coaching at Juergen's Gymnastics Academy. He has been coaching the competitive girls' team levels 2 and up since 2010 and has enjoyed developing young athletes and making a positive difference in their lives. However, when Phong is not busy with work or coaching, he tries to sneak in a few rounds of golf with his friends enjoying the outdoors. Phong has also been DJing on and off since high school, so he enjoys mixing and listening to all types of great music from different genres. He has chosen a profession that he truly loves here at Juergen's and greatly appreciates the opportunity to be a part of your kids' lives.
